About Me

Are you looking for art therapy in Liverpool to support your emotional wellbeing, reduce anxiety, or explore your feelings in a creative space?

I’m Joanna, a registered art therapist based in Liverpool, offering personalised art therapy and creative psychotherapy sessions for children, young people and adults.

I describe my practice as a creative psychotherapy as it’s not limited to art making. Instead, I invite you to be playful through art, music, metaphor and the things we can connect and relate to most in life.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative processes such as drawing, painting or making to help people explore thoughts and feelings. You don’t need to talk about everything directly, the artwork can offer a safe way to express, understand and process emotions, supported by a trained therapist in a confidential, therapeutic space.

  • Art therapy can be helpful when life feels overwhelming or when emotions are hard to understand or put into words. Sometimes talking alone isn’t enough, especially when experiences feel complex, confusing or painful. Creative psychotherapy offers a gentle, safe space to explore thoughts and feelings, helping you make sense of what you’re carrying at your own pace.

  • Art therapy sessions typically involve a mixture of conversation and creative expression. Depending on your needs, you may work with drawing, painting, collage, or other art materials. You don’t need any artistic skill - the focus is on exploring thoughts and emotions safely, not producing artwork.

  • Not at all. Art therapy is for everyone, regardless of artistic ability. The creative process helps you express feelings that may be hard to put into words, supporting emotional regulation, insight and personal growth.

  • Art therapy can support people experiencing anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, low mood, confidence issues, neurodiversity, and life transitions. It can be especially helpful when talking alone feels overwhelming or limiting.

  • Yes. Art therapy is effective for children, young people and adults. Many adults find creative psychotherapy helpful when they feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure how to express complex emotions verbally.

  • The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and personal circumstances. Some people notice meaningful changes after a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. During your initial consultation, we’ll discuss what you hope to achieve and agree on a therapeutic approach that feels right for you.
